“We think we listen, but rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening of this very special kind is one of the most potent forces for change that I know”

– Carl Rogers, founder of person-centred therapy.

Kate’s approach
You may have shared your concerns with family, friends or colleagues, but have you really been heard? When life gets tough, this is the time when we really need someone to hear us. Events from the past may be holding us back, making us feel stuck. Exploring those events and the feelings around them in a confidential and safe space can help you move forward. Kate will listen to you with total acceptance and non-judgement.

Kate can work with you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and the challenges you may be facing. Greater self-awareness brings with it the opportunity for new possibilities and a more joyful, fulfilling life. Kate is an Integrative Therapist, which means that she can tailor her approach to each person. She works with clients with depression, anxiety, career issues, traumatic experiences, relationship difficulties and is especially interested in how childhood experience unconsciously informs our adult relationships.

Short-term counselling can help you address current problems and try and find new solutions, while longer term therapy can help explore past and present issues and gain insight and effect more long-lasting change.

The process of therapy provides the opportunity to explore your life more closely and gain a better understanding of yourself and the challenges you face. Talking about these difficulties with Kate, you will be able to begin finding new ways to tackle them and shift any sense of feeling stuck, paving the way for change.

Starting therapy shows a willingness and courage for things to be different. It can’t erase a difficult past, but it can increase your resilience and allow you to make positive changes going forward.

Specialties – Anxiety, stress & trauma
Kate’s speciality areas are working with issues related to anxiety, stress and trauma. She recognises that the mind and body are closely connected and uses the somatic body based process of TRE (tension releasing exercises) to support clients.

It doesn’t require talking about an event, feeling or issue, therefore it overcomes the language barriers that can bring up added stress. TRE is is based on the fundamental idea, backed by research, that stress, tension and trauma is both psychological and physical.

TRE includes a series of easy stretches using the muscles of the lower body and builds up a little shaking in the legs. Once the body is shaking, you lie on the floor, and encourage these natural vibrations to move through the body, without trying to control them. Most people enjoy the sensation of shaking and some report a physical or emotional release, without becoming overwhelmed by the process.

A TRE session lasts an hour. TRE is designed to be a self-help tool. Working with a TRE provider for five sessions will equip you with the skills to practice TRE independently throughout your life, thereby continuously supporting and promoting personal health and wellness.

Kate has benefitted from TRE personally. She experienced chronic neck pain and migraines for more than 20 years and relied on migraine medication when she had an attack. After developing a TRE practice, the migraines have stopped.
